Today our lab, which is tres computery for an anatomy lab, took delivery of our new MacBook Pro. This got me really excited, not the least of which because I like good design and Macs are some of the best examples of good design out there these days. I mean, good design is enjoyable, it makes you want to use it and, though I am a died-in-the-wool PC man, I do appreciate the Mac. I digress. The most of which part that got me excited was Osirix.
Osirix is a free, open-source piece of Wunderware which does amazing stuff with DICOM series; MRI, CT, Ultrasound... It sucks them all up and lets you actually DO something with them. Being a medical illustrator who works in anatomy lab, I'm always thinking of new ways to show something, so I have plans around the "DO something" part of Osirix. Those plans involve another piece of big powerfull Wunderware, which I'll refrain from naming for a while. Anywho, my first attempt to play matchmaker between these two resulted in a pretty good first date see below. Check out the CT shadows from the dental work.
